During the summer months (June to Aug) when the temperature can be 40c plus the whole of the region is packed with holidaymakers mostly from the North of Italy, with some Scandinavians and other North Europeans. During these months you will find all the bars, restaurants and discos open well into the early hours of the morning, with street markets open until about 1am. The Town/Village Squares will also play host to live bands and other entertainment.

When the temperature is this high, the early afternoon is the time for a siesta; most shops will close between 1pm to 3 or 4pm but the good news is a lot of bars remain open. Post siesta the shops remain open till about 9pm

When choosing a restaurant during the summer months expect them to be busy, the best way to ensure a table is to arrive early, you will find most Italians like to eat at about 1pm at lunchtime and about 9pm in the evening. Discos are to be found along the coast and in the towns, most will not open until about 12 midnight and go on till dawn. Don’t be surprised to find a whole family of Mum, Dad and the children in a disco, that is the Italian way!

Outside of the towns the whole region is given over to farming, most fields are family owned which results in a variation of crops from one field to the next with acres of Olive trees and all kinds of fruit trees in abundance. A simple walk in the countryside will fill your senses with sights and fragrances to enjoy.

If your preference is to relax on the beach you will find the area much to your liking, with beaches of golden sand that slopes gently into the clear azure blue sea. The sea temperature is comfortable for swimming from late May to late September. There are also rugged stretches of coastline with caves to explore for scuba divers and snorkling

During the peak season of June to August the beaches will be crowded however during the rest of the year you will have the place mostly to yourselves.

Use of the beaches is free. A small charge is payable for the use of sun beds and parasols if you want them.
